DOWNTOWN CALGARY
Located along 14 ST NW, Hillhurst, this project acts as a catalyst for development along this commercial street. The project also aims to combat the rapidly rising housing costs in the city, with a goal of rents less than 30% of monthly minimum wage. In many ways we researched ways to make this project a perfect catalyst. For example, the laneway housing, using commercial revenue to subsidize the apartments, and reverse angle parking, all while ensuring the heritage aspect of 14 street was maintained in its brick cladding.
As this was the capstone semester, we as a group aimed to push ourselves and the limits of our education to produce this set of drawings. In this process we experimented with many different concepts and drawing strategies that could be implemented in the project. Although this was a group effort, some of my areas of focus were the enlarged plans/ sections, parkade ramp design and details, brick detailing and coursing, amenity space details and design, site details and plan, reflected ceilings plans, and ceiling baffles. Additional note: any detail with (R) beside it was completed by myself. I believe that we were not only succesful in meeting our project goals, but also learning useful teamwork and research skills along the way.
